Do Garden Buildings Require Planning Permission?
One of the benefits of upgrading your home with our garden room installations is that they generally don’t require planning permission, assuming they meet the following conditions:
-
It's built in accordance with building regulations and permitted development guidelines.
-
It's a single-storey building.
-
It's under 2.5 meters high or 3 meters if it has a dual-pitched roof.
-
It's not built in front of your property. It doesn't take up more than 50% of your garden.
-
It's not designed for overnight accommodation or used as a base for your business.
However, you will need planning permission for a bespoke garden room if:
-
You live in a flat, maisonette, or listed building.
-
Your home is in a designated area, such as an area of outstanding natural beauty, conservation area, World Heritage Site, or national park.
-
The garden room is built on land in front of a wall forming the principal elevation of your house.
While acquiring planning permission may feel intimidating, our builders are here to assist you each step of the way. To learn more about your area's specific rules and regulations, we recommend consulting your local authority.
